A Brief History
Senior Democrats of the Ozarks (formerly known as the Greene
County Senior Democrats) was began in the mid-summer of
2003, when a steering committee of about 20 people gathered on
June 7th to discuss the possibility of organizing senior democrats
in Greene County and surrounding areas.
Our first general meeting was held on October 9th, 2003, with approximately
30 people in attendance. At the meeting three committees were appointed.
A by-laws committee, a program committee and a members notice committee.
Since then, we have met monthly with steadily growing attendance.
As of January 2006, about 200 people are paid members in the organization
and over 300 on our mailing list.
The purpose of Senior Democrats of the Ozarks (SDO) as defined by
the By-laws is:
"To further the basic philosophy of the Democratic Party
and to assist in the election of individuals who seek office to
carry forward that philosophy. We also work for passage or defeat
of certain legislation and encourage discussion of issues of special
concern for Seniors."
Anyone age 50 or older is welcome to become a member, although
we heartily welcome the participation of all persons who are younger
that 50.
Persons may join by paying an annual due of ten dollars ($10 US).
Lifetime membership may be purchased for one hundred dollars ($100
US).
The affairs of SDO are governed by the elected Board of Directors
